Proposal Assessment c:  Novelty Seeking

    Team c proposes to locate a common molecular pathway to which variation

    at different loci can all contribute in different sub-populations of

    affected individuals. They plan to combine microarray and other gene

    expression data with protein annotation and new advances in the understanding

    of protein-protein interactions to identify the role of the several

    polymorphisms in the developmental pathway leading to NS, using a series of

    transgenic rats. The expectation is that the phenomenon can only be understood

    at the genetic level by studying how multiple genes interact.
